I believe counselling is a place where we can explore patterns we have learnt that are not helpful now, so that we have more choices and can live a more satisfying and fulfilling life.
The purpose of the initial consultation is for me to find out what is bringing you into counselling at this time and what you would like to gain from counselling. This first meeting whether by video link, telephone or face to face also gives us the opportunity to decide whether it is appropriate for us to work together.
Once we have decided to work together we would agree a day and time we would meet each week. For therapy to work it is important that regular weekly sessions take place. I appreciate that this is not always possible. I require 48 hours notice of a cancelled session. If you give me less notice than this, then I will try to find another time within the same week that is convenient to both of us; however, if this is not possible then the fee will be charged.
Goal of Therapy
One of the goals of therapy is to encourage people to take responsibility for their own actions. Your commitment is necessary for progress and it is important that you continue to come even when pain or difficulties arise. It is often the case in therapy that things seem to get worse before they get better. Don't be put off. It is part of the process and it doesn't mean you are failing.
